3-23-09 Week in Review

This week continued the craziness of last week. With work it was more difficult to get the house in order. Thursday my sister and brother in law visited. We went out for dinner and had a grand time. Saturday we headed back to the old house to clean the floors and run a few errands. Once we got back we were able to refocus on the new house. After visiting a Church we made decent progress today. I got some boxes cleaned out and someone picked up lots of our wood. I got a lot of things for sale and we continue to work towards our 10% 'stuff' reduction.
This evening we were finally able to sit down and enjoy our new home theater area. Much like after getting the last house and we finally sat down to relax, we figured out our TV seemed small. Unlike last time, rather than getting a larger one we are just planning on sitting closer!
Still a work in progress but here are a few pictures.

What a week...

Sunday we wrapped up painting at our new house and then headed back to Davenport to see Mama Mia. Little did I know that was going to be the last restful/fun event I'd participate in for some time.

Monday the movers showed up right on time. As I rushed around the house disassembling and tearing down a few last minute items, the movers tore into things. By the end of the day significant progress was made.

Tuesday I spent a good part of the day working in the garage..by work I mean actual real work. My crated up TV was my desk and I sat on the garage stool. The 4 movers continued to pack and began to load our stuff up including our 500# treadmill.

Wednesday was loading. The 4 got everything packed up. We ended up with 22,000 pounds of stuff and 3500 cubic feet of stuff. We stayed at a hotel that night since there was nothing in our house.

Thursday was the day to move the hot tub. The guys showed up right on time and they got it loaded and moved to our new home. I traveled with them to the new location.

Friday was delivery day. This is where things got crazy. 5 guys dumped all 22,000# of stuff in our home. My Dad came over to help install carpet in the new drum room. That night I started to setup the home theater to prep for the dish guy.

Saturday was crazy. My parents, Jodi's parents, two '3rd party people' and Jodi and I all tore into getting things setup, installed, assembled, etc. It was madness and we were far from finished. The dish guy showed up as well to get that up and running.

Sunday was much the same as Saturday but the 3rd party had finished thier work.

3-9-09 Week in Review

Lots going on this week. Monday I got a new tonno cover for my truck...now I have to keep it another decade or so! Afterwards I spent time doing lots of little projects on the new house. Tuesday I cleaned over 1800 sq ft of carpet with a rug doctor. It wasn't bad but I had to get it done that evening so I was hustling and was tired when finished. Thursday my Dad stopped in and we did a few small projects in the basement. Friday Jodi came up and between that evening, ALL day on Saturday and Sunday morning we finished the master paint, the master bath paint, and the exercise room. Afterwards we drove back to our other house. We saw Mama Mia this afternoon which was quite a bit better than I expected.

So this is a week late...read on to figure out why.

I spent the week in a hotel again. I can't really recall anything exciting or even interesting going on. Thursday Jodi came up so we could close on our new house on Friday. We 'moved in' to the new house with an air mattress and a few folding chairs. We spent the rest of the day on Friday and all day on Saturday cleaning the house. My parents came over and were a huge help on Saturday. Sunday we started to pain the master bedroom. It too quite a bit longer than anticipated. We are basically relearning how to paint since this house has textured walls. Sunday started my week of living in the house with little to speak of. I also started to explore the new city.

2-23-09

I started the week out by driving to my new home...the Country Inn and Suites. Actually I went to work first. Anyhow the biggest challenge the first week on my new job was getting a badge for the new location followed very closely by getting a tag to park. The first I can understand, we wouldn't want to let just anyone into the building. The parking...the factory is located in the middle of nowhere. The next closest building is like a mile away. I just can't understand why we need a special tag to park in the lot other than the higher up you are the closer you get to park (a real benefit in the winter). I'm lucky that I get to be in the second tier!

Wednesday evening I got a 'welcome to cedar falls' letter from the city. It was delivered in high fashion as well. The delivery guy snuck up behind me, turned on some flashing red and blue lights on his car and shone a big spotlight one me. We had a friendly conversation about how the steatch of road right in front of the aquatic center actually generated revenue to help pay for the aquatic center. He left me with a nice note to remember our encounter by the next time I should decide to drive that steatch of road.

Over the weekend we did lot of last minute things prepping for the move. Some guys from Ardor came over and we jammed on a few songs and Park Lane did one final rehearsal in my Davenport basement.

Check out all the videos posted of Park Lane. Go in and rate the videos (5 stars) and leave us some comments about how cool we are and how badly you want to see us!
