1-19-09 Week in Review

Weather = Suck

House selling was the primary goal...mission accomplished, we got it on the market. I played for the last time (at least for now) at Heritage. It was only quasi sad since I'd only been there for 3 months and it was only my 5th time playing. It's amazing how many people have commented they would miss me...like do they even know me yet?

Anyhow, Monday kicked the week off with a holiday (spent cleaning and organizing the house for quick sale) and Friday finished the week off with Guys Night - Steak Pizza: The Phantom Bacon. It was most excellent. A classic dish improved! One fine gent even suggested pouring the garlic butter over the steak...a most excellent addition, my heart and arteries thank you!

WTF...digital TV

I'm glad our government jumped right into action and delayed the switch to digital television....maybe all those people procrastinating over the last two or three years about getting their converter box will run right out and buy one before June now.

Maybe we can tackle the economy, one of our wars, or corruption next....if securing rights for the tooth fairy doesn't take precedence.

UPDATE UPDATE...stop the presses

Apparently the republicans can still get things done...like proving that bipartisanism is still alive and well and that delaying the transition to digital is stupid and a waste of time.

Obama

I find it rather alarming how much emphasis is being put on the fact that our next president is black (actually half black). I guess because I've not experienced much racism the magnitude of this achievement is perhaps muted. I'm just hoping that we chose the best person for President based on what that person has to bring to office. The mere fact that he's black isn't going to resolve wars, fend off terrorist (actually, if he was Muslim...), set tax or governmental policies, or help interpret the constitution to ensure freedom for the millions of Americans who depend on it nor the millions of people else where in the world who would literally risk dieing to have it.

Don't get me wrong, overcoming our prejudices as a nation is important but I wish the media could focus on what I hope are the real reasons Mr. Obama was elected President...but then I guess being things other than black don't sell as well or maybe he was elected purely for the color of his skin...which in an irony of ironies is the definition of racism.

1-12-09 Week in Review

Nothing really exciting this week. I missed work for two days due to the aforementioned stomach flu. The weather was terrible. Snow, cold, cold and cold. It warmed up nearly 60 degrees and the temperature was still below freezing :(

On Friday I my new job was announced at work so everyone knows we're moving now. We got the relocation process finally started this week but still have a long ways to go. We really need to get busy selling our house. This weekend we've spent time cleaning things up and out.

1-5-09 Week in Review

Welcome to 2009. I was back at work last week but nothing too exciting there. Friday I did get to travel on the company jet up to Minot ND...which was in the middle of a blizzard...again, not very exciting.

Saturday Dave came up and we jammed on some old tunes and some new tunes. We also worked on some tracks I'd laid down two years ago for him. Sunday Tony came over and we worked on some new tracks for Park Lane. After getting the gains set right and some tweaking on the EQ and effects we had some killer drum sounds. Too bad not all the playing was as good as it could have been! Perhaps the playing wasn't so good because I was hours away from coming down with some bad stomach flu?

For a guy that hasn't puked since October of 1993 (induced by the anasthetic from a surgery) it was quite the experience. I learned a few things from this experience

1. Those people that say I don't drink tequila (or vodka, or whiskey etc.) because they had a 'bad experience' with it are not weenies...they have every right to avoid that beverage or drinking all together as far as I'm concerned.
2. I always thought people that said things like 'I was so sick I didn't know which end to put on the can' were exaggerating...they are not. You body can be very very cruel.
3. My wife really likes to learn new things about me...even if it is that I'm a projectile vomiter.

Sorry, no pictures to share this week!

12-29-08 Week In Review

I was off work again this week (excellent). The big news this week was our awesome New Year's Party. Other than that we spent time putting the house in order. This weekend I played at Church at had an absolutely incredible worship experience in Saturday evening.

What do hotels in Canada advertise when it's -20F?

Mardi Gras Christmas Tree

What happens when Mardi Gras meets Christmas? Well, Jodi and I decided to use our beads to decorate the tree. We threw them at the tree Mardi Gras style although we didn't make the tree lift up it's skirt to receive the beads!

12-22-08 Week in Review

This week I accepted a new job. We'll be re-locating. I was off work all week. It was a nice break. On Christmas Eve we headed down to Jodi's parent. I constructed this monument to celebrate Christmas. After we got back, we headed up to have Christmas with my family. All in all a relaxing week.
