2-16-09 Week in Review
Hi happy blog readers...I bet you couldn't wait for this installment of my blog!
Monday I had to head up to the new house to work things out with the current owners. We got er' done and we are finally moving along...now if we could only get the financing nailed down! No new developments on selling our current house...the weather should be improving soon so hopefully that will help things get moving.
Last week was my last week living at my old house. Jodi kept wondering if I was sad. Yes I loved that house, yes the area was a nice area to live in (with the exception of the snow and cold) but I guess it was always a temporary place so it really wasn't that sad. There are lots of people that I got to know that I hope to keep up with but other than that I guess there was nothing really special. We're going to work on keeping Park Lane together so that is good.
At work I attended a few meetings and got to catch up with others from around the company. I was also wrapping up things at my old job. It was nice to know that for the last three years I played an important part of the units development. It shaped me and I shaped it and in the end everyone was better off. That's a good feeling to have even though I know that in a few days it will be like I never even worked there.
Friday we went out with some friends to dinner and Comedy Sportz...a fun time as usual. Saturday I packed up lots of my equipment and on Sunday we got our new home theater seating. It's quite comfy and I can't wait to get it into the new house and watch some movies!

2-9-09 Week in Review
The good thing about the week was our vacation to Texas. It was really nice to get out of the snow and the cold and throw on some shorts!
Thursday we visited some missions and hung out by the river again (more Mexican). Friday we headed up to Austin to visit the set of Austin City Limits, more BBQ (awesome), and a small town where they had a kickn' band in an old school dance hall. Saturday we finished up the downtown and headed home.
Before we left Park Lane played at a local coffee house. It was good. I had to play the house kit which I supplemented with some of my own equipment. That was good because the kit was junk. The event was video taped by the local paper and they are going to put videos together so I'll post some links when that happens. For now, here's some photos.
We're such bad asses!
We left bright and early (6 AM flight) for TX. The first day we hung out on the river walk eating BBQ and Mexican, seeing the Alamo and taking a river boat tour. Living right on the Mississippi you can forget just how big a river it is...the river there didn't seem like much more than a stream.

The real saga of the week came with the home we were buying...let's just say things didn't go too smoothly but I think we are going to get them worked out.

2-2-09 Week in Review
I had a fairly productive week at work. That shouldn't be all that surprising but the last few have maybe been less that stellar. Other than that, the process of buying, selling, and moving houses has been quite time consuming. Things are proceeding but there hasn't been any more action on ours. Monday I got to visit Eastern Colorado on the company jet. That was a new state for me and I didn't realize that there was a dessert there! Thursday evening they had a party for me at work to celebrate my leaving (or maybe that I have a new job). Anyhow, it was fun and a good time was had by all. This weekend was mostly full of errands and wrapping things up here in Davenport.
That's all for now.
That's all for now.

25 Random Things
If you have a facebook page you know that there is this 25 random things going around now. Well, I got tagged and wrote my 25 things and figured I'd post it here as well:
1. Random and Brian don’t really go together all that well
2. I’ve worked in supply chain management for the past 6 years. I’ve never actually purchased anything.
3. My drum set has 14 drums and 18 cymbals on it (I counted since everyone always asks)
4. Some people are fortunate enough to hear voices in their heads, I hear sounds…when ever this happens it usually means a trip to the music store and an addition to the drum set
5. I think that half the fun of buying anything is getting a great deal
6. I believe that things change every day so what was right or best one day may not me the same the next
7. I do my best thinking in the hot tub
8. I praise God best when playing the drums
9. I owe everything to God
10. I believe you are either part of the problem or part of the solution
11. I believe that if you don’t like something you can either change it, accept it, or get out of it
12. I think strategically better than tactically
13. I’m a big picture kind of guy and details bore me
14. My wife is my best friend
15. Like most people, when I retire I want a house in the south...by south I mean the southern island of New Zealand
16. I drive a 10 year old truck and I love it today as much as the day I got it
17. I think the greatest compliment you can give or receive is someone wanting to be like you or do the things you do
18. I love to lead and have a difficult time following
19. I always think things could be better and will usually try to make them so but I am not a perfectionist
20. I like being outside but I like doing it in civilized ways
21. I’m actually quite competitive although I’ve never played sports and really don’t ever have the desire to
22. The next thing I want for my drum set is a roadie
23. I need to be on stage in front of people fairly regularly or I get a bit antsy
24. I like to work on projects and to build things
25. I’m and audiophile…that is significantly different than being a pedophile

1-26-09 Week in Review
Let's see. Our house officially hit the market on Monday. We also had a radon inspection, realtor showings, buyer showing, appraisal, and major component inspection...basically a continual stream of people going through our house. It really makes it seems less like your home, especially since it has to be show ready at all times, kinda like we are only half living here.

Friday Jodi and I headed off to Ceder Rapids to see Chris Tomlin. A bit strange of a concert...it was more like a worship experience. I think the audience did more singing that Chris did. It was cool. The only bad thing is that by the time we got tickets we were like 25 rows back (not our normal first few rows) so it wasn't quite as intimate as I'm used to.
Afterwards we headed up to Cedar Falls. Saturday we looked at homes. It was quite disappointing. Of the few homes that generally met our criteria, most of them weren't really what we wanted at all. We breezed through lots of homes with no interest. By the end of the day we had only two that we were interested in. After taking another look we had only one that we felt OK with. On Sunday we made an offer and after a little negotiating got it with reasonable terms. While we are both satisfied with the purchase, neither of us is very excited. I think we would have needed to spend an additional $50k to get something that met our needs and we were excited about.
